That means a nine-year-old cat has been awake for only three years of its life.  Like people, cats either doze in a light sleep or sleep very deeply.  Also like people, thier sleeping habits are affected by the weather.

Why is it that cats are as attracted to Christmas trees as they are to catnip and your warm laptop? Does it awaken some primitive instinct, harkening back to the days of feral cats who climbed in the forests? Are they claiming it as their territory? Or is it just another example of cats getting in/climbing on/playing with something they shouldn't?
