Chinese New Year 2013 - Year Of The Snake
This Sunday is the start of the Chinese New Year, one of the most important holiday on the Chinese calendar. Its celebrated with a two-week festival of activity that includes parades, dances, fireworks, feasts and more! Every Chinese New Year has an animal symbol, and 2013 is the year of the snake.
What does this mean? The animal represents traits for people born in this year. However, this is not the only animal symbol the Chinese people have. There are also animals for the month, day and hour which you are born, each symbolizing a different part of your personality. People born in the year of the snake are charming but calculating, and usually conservative. They are alert and perceptive and value love, companionship and moral support.
Celebrate Chinese New Year and the year of the snake by learning more about these reptiles here, here and here. And don't forget to visit our snake section on the website so you can choose a cuddly (or creepy) snake of your own!

Picture Of The Week - A Swarm In The Sea
This photograph, which was taken in 2010, captures a bit of animal behavior that has rarely (if ever) been seen before or since it was taken. German photographer Florian Schulz snapped the image while flying over Baja California Sur in Mexico. It's a mass of Munkiana Devil Rays, swimming toward an unknown destination.
Of the photograph, Schulz said: "Not even my pilot, who has surveyed this area for 20 years, had seen anything like it. As we got closer we started to discover its nature: an unprecedented congregation of rays. The group was as thick as it was wide, all heading towards the same direction. I have asked around why this took place but no one has been able to explain it to me."
The photograph earned him the CIWEM Environmental Photographer Of The Year Award in 2012.

Other ideas including giving away Burt's Bees products as favors or prizes, having bee cupcakes or cake pops, and having guests guess what sexy the baby will "bee". We think this is one baby shower theme that is as sweet as honey!

The Northern Stargazer - Romantic Name, Terrifying Fish
As pretty as the name Northern Stargazer sounds, this is not a pretty animal. In fact, this fish looks downright scary! With it's human-like eyes and mouth, the Stargazer is a bit disconcerting to look at. Not to mention the sharp teeth that are just itching to bite prey.
The Stargazer catches its prey by burrowing in the sand. It's eyes are located on the top of its head, allowing for it to see as smaller fish swim by (and where the name Stargazer stems from). When a tasty-looking fish passes by, the Stargazer creates a vacuum with its large mouth, sucking in its prey.
Stargazers can be found primarily along the eastern coast of the United States, on beaches from North Carolina to New York.
